Former Telangana NGOs leader T Devi Prasad Rao, who contested on Telangana Rashtra Samithi ticket for MLC elections from Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar graduates’ constituency, is all set to lose the battle.
According to the latest trends available, Devi Prasad is lagging behind by his nearest rival from Bharatiya Janata Party N Ramachandra Rao by over 4,000 votes. If the second preferential votes are counted, the former TNGO leader is set to lose with a heavy margin.
Sources said it was none other than TRS chief and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who has sabotaged the winning prospects of Devi Prasad to help the BJP candidate indirectly.
While BJP announced the candidature of Ramachandra Rao several months ago so that he could do a lot of groundwork to gain the support of graduates, KCR maintained suspense over Devi Prasad’s candidature for a long time and cleared it only days before the electioneering. As a result, the TNGO leader hardly had any time to campaign, leave alone spending money.
On the other hand, Telugu Desam Party mobilized the support of Seemandhra graduates who are in big number in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts in favour of the BJP candidate.
While Seemandhra voters turned up in large numbers, the Telangana voters did not evince interest in voting, as a result only 39 per cent voting was recorded. That worked in favour of the BJP candidate.
