Kavitha to contest from Hyderabad this time?

If the reports doing rounds in a section of media are to be believed, Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha is most likely to try her luck from Hyderabad in the next assembly elections, scheduled in November or December.

According to these reports, Kavitha is interested in contesting the assembly elections this year, rather than Lok Sabha elections next year, and become a minister in the state cabinet, if the BRS comes back to power in the state.

The reports, quoting sources in the party, said Kavitha is eyeing Musheerabad assembly seat in Hyderabad, in place of sitting MLA Mutha Gopal.

It is learnt party president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already given indications to Gopal to this effect.

While promising to take care of Gopal’s political interests, KCR reportedly asked him to sacrifice the seat for the sake of Kavitha.

Apparently, internal surveys indicated that Gopal is unlikely to win the seat, as the Bharatiya Janata Party is growing stronger in the constituency.

“The only way to win the seat is to field Kavitha and she would be able to attract a good number of votes of Muslims, who are predominant in this constituency,” sources said.

Another reason for KCR deciding to field Kavitha from Musheerabad is that the party needs a strong leader to regain control over the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

“If she becomes an MLA, it would be easier for the party to gain the grip over the GHMC,” sources said.

Initially, KCR proposed to field his son K T Rama Rao from Kukatpally or Sherilingampally assembly constituency, but intelligence reports said the move might backfire, as the BRS is likely to lose in these constituencies.

“That is why, KCR is planning to field Kavitha from a safer constituency like Musheerabad,” sources added.
