Senior Backward Classes leader Kasani Gyaneshwar, who resigned as the president of Telugu Desam Party (TDP)’s Telangana unit and also primary membership of the party, is most probably going to join the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
Gyaneshwar, who hails from Mudiraj community, resigned from the TDP following its supremo N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision not to contest the state assembly polls scheduled for November 30.
He said he had taken the the decision because the Telangana TDP leaders and workers were “thoroughly disappointed” by the party leadership’s decision.
Kasani said he and the party workers in Telangana were “fully prepared” to contest the Assembly polls, but the TDP top brass, including Naidu, did not respond positively and instead allowed Jana Sena Party (JSP) to contest in the state.
According to latest reports, Kasani got the invitation from the BRS leadership, which is desperately looking for the support from Mudiraj community.
Sources said Gyaneshwar is likely to be fielded as the party candidate from Goshamahal assembly constituency in Hyderabad.
It may be mentioned that the BRS has not decided any candidate for Goshamahal yet and is looking for a strong candidate. Though it has shortlisted the name of Nanda Kishore Vyas, the latter has proved no match for Bharatiya Janata Party candidate T Raja Singh.
The party apparently feels Kasani, who is not only cash rich, but also has a strong following among the BCs, might give tough fight to Raja Singh.
Even if Kasani loses, it doesn’t matter much for the BRS, as he can influence Mudiraj voters elsewhere in the state, sources said.
“An announcement to this effect might be made in a day or two,” sources added.
