Kapu Issue: The Judiciary Should Step In!

Having witnessed the Kapu Garjana run amok at Tuni, it is high time, the judiciary steps in to resolve the contentious issue of 'reservations' in the nation.

‘Reservations’ have only served to amplify the existing differences in society and resulted in further fissures in society.

Whether, the nuisance of ‘reservations’ is to be done away with or not is a decision best left to the judiciary. But they should at least prevent it from becoming a tool in the hands of power-hungry politicians.

Chandrababu Naidu promised the Kapus, that they would be included in the BC list if voted to power. They believed him and backed by a film star hailing from their community, they voted for him in large numbers.

It is this kind of manipulation of the masses by the politicians that is destroying the nation. In the next election, he will promise some other community.

The judiciary should take strong measures and ensure that communities do not become a tool in vote-bank politics at least in future failing which the concomitant costs will be too large for society to bear.

A bystander to the Tuni violence remarked to the media, “That Kamma (Chandrababu Naidu) promised these Kapus, reservation. And it is we (public) who are suffering.”

The day, this resentment of the rest of society manifests itself in the form of physical retaliation against the perpetrators; it will be a case of AP having gone to the dogs.
