Kanna says he is not in the race

Two days after his meeting with the Congress President Sonia Gandhi triggered speculation about his elevation in the party, the senior Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana on Thursday clarified that he was not in the race for any post.

"I am not in the race for CM's post or any organisational post," Kanna said. However, he said that he told Sonia about the dangers of dividing the state.

Kanna said that he met the party president on his own by taking a prior appointment.

He was not summoned by the high command as was reported in the media. He said he told her about the people’s strong desire to keep the state united.

Sonia told him that since a decision has been taken by the CWC, it cannot be reversed. Kanna then raised the concerns and fears of Seemandhra people, to which Sonia Gandhi directed him to approach the GoM and present his views.

His sudden trip to Delhi and meeting with the party president and the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's cancellation of his scheduled trip to the national capital have set off speculation about the change of guard in the state.

The media reports said that Kanna would be given organisational responsibilities for Seemandhra.
