There is a famous Shakesperean quote- ‘what is there in a name? Even when you call a rose by some other name it smells as sweet’.
This happens to be the talk of many in Andhra Pradesh now. It is known that the Congress Working Committee note that has given the green signal for the formation of the new Telangana state, defined the state as 10 districts, including Hyderabad as its capital and any other districts that volunteer to join.
Now a joke is making the rounds on social networking sites asking what will happen if all 13 Seemandhra districts volunteer to be part of Telangana state. That means there will no bifurcation but only a change in name. Well, that means the things remain as they are. But just the name ‘AP’ changes to ‘TG’ in entire state from Vizianagaram to Chittoor and Anantapur to Adilabad.
The motive of Samaikyandhra activists is to keep the state as it is and ready for changing the name in the way the Telangana activists wish. But Telangana activists are not at all bending on any issue and all that they want is a separate Telangana state with 10 districts with Hyderabad as capital. They even don’t want to include any other district into their list.
On the other hand there is a proposal making rounds that the name of the state should be changed ‘Telugu Nadu’ instead of Andhra Pradesh, as it is becoming difficult to convey the identity of Telugu language and Telugu race to outer world.
Whatever is the proposal and whatever be the jokes making rounds in social media, things are happening as per the whims and fancies of the center and the rest are either becoming spectators or agitators. We have to wait and see when and where this issue ends.
