The arrest of senior Congress leader and former Sangareddy MLA Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy in connection with the alleged illegal human trafficking case of 2004 is likely to backfire on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Jagga Reddy was charged with taking two women and a young man to the United States of America by using fake documents which showed them as his family members. He allegedly dropped them in the US and returned to India alone.
He was booked under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 409 and 370 Indian Penal Code, besides section 12 of the Passport Act 1967 and section 24 of Immigration Act 1983.
He was produced before a Secunderabad court on Tuesday for two-week judicial remand. The court also denied him bail.
Setting aside the merits of the case, it is an open secret that the TRS government has dug up an old case of 2004 against Jagga Reddy and got him arrested by the police.
The reason is simple: Jagga Reddy has been nurturing Sangareddy for the last four and a half years and is the biggest threat to the TRS not only in Sangareddy but also in other constituencies like Patancheru, Medak and even Vikarabad.
But the question is there were similar cases against the TRS almost at the same time. One of them Mohammad Shakeel was even arrested in the human trafficking case and came out on bail. He later became Bodhan MLA in 2014 on TRS ticket and is a close follower of Nizamabad MP K Kavitha.
Other TRS leaders like Soyam Bapu Rao and Kasipeta Lingaiah were also arrested and released in a similar fake passport cases.
The Congress leaders are now digging out the old records and started spreading them in social media.
If the cases are there, they should be pursued, but targeting only the Congress leaders shows the kind of witchhunting by the TRS. It is quite evident before the people of Telangana!
