As Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, Y S Sharmila, prepares for the grand wedding of her son, Y S Raja Reddy, to Atluri Priya on Saturday, her brother, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, and his wife, Bharati Reddy, are likely to be conspicuously absent.
The lavish wedding ceremony is set to take place at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan – a destination wedding. However, Jagan will be preoccupied with the third meeting of “Siddham,” the mega public rally of his party, scheduled for the following day in Kurnool.
Despite Sharmila visiting Jagan’s Tadepalli residence last month to extend an invitation to him and his family, he will not be attending the ceremony. Consequently, Raja Reddy's marriage will proceed without his maternal uncle.
It is worth noting that Jagan did attend the engagement ceremony of Raja Reddy held in Hyderabad, flying down from Vijayawada with his wife to attend the event. However, during his brief appearance, he seemed uncomfortable interacting with Sharmila, staying for only a short time before leaving.
The reason for Jagan's absence is apparent. Sharmila, who has assumed the role of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, has been launching aggressive attacks on her brother, criticizing his government, policies, and even incidents of violence against Dalits and OBCs.
While Jagan has made critical remarks against the Congress, he has not personally targeted Sharmila thus far. However, his party leaders and social media activists have been relentlessly attacking her and her party with harsh language.
It remains to be seen whether Jagan will attend at least the wedding reception of Raja Reddy and Priya.
