Jagan To Play Key Role In 3rd Front

The YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy could play a key role in the non-Congress and non-BJP political formation in the post-poll scenario.

His meeting with the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in Delhi on Monday triggered speculation in the media over the possible revival of Third Front efforts, particularly in the wake of the drubbing that the Congress received in the Assembly elections in four states.

It is said in the political circles in Delhi that Jagan and Mulayam discussed the political situation, in the wake of rapidly declining stocks of Congress, and the need for building a national level platform for non-Congress and non-BJP forces wedding to secularism and common programmes.

Later, the YSRCP chief drove to the residence of Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda and held discussions with him.

Jagan has been meeting leaders of various parties as part of efforts to mobilize support for keeping Andhra Pradesh united. He has been appealing to them to oppose the Telangana bill whenever it comes up before the Parliament.

He had earlier met leaders of BJP, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), BJD, Shiv Sena and others to mobilize opinion against the misuse of article 3 under which the Centre is going ahead with bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Jagan visited several state capitals and met leaders of regional parties as part of his mission to stall the division process.

The YSRCP had earlier met the Chief ministers Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal), J Jayalalithaa (Tamil Nadu) and Akhilesh Yadav (Uttar Pradesh) and appealed to them to cooperate with the efforts to keep Andhra Pradesh united.

He has accused the Congress of trying to divide the state only for the sake of votes and seats in the coming general elections with the sole aim of making Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister.
