Telugu Desam Party Andhra Pradesh unit president and senior legislator Kinjarapu Atchen Naidu would be facing a tough contest in his Tekkali assembly constituency, not from his regular rival Duvvada Srinivas, but his wife Duvvada Vani.
YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday appointed Vani as the coordinator of the party for Tekkali assembly constituency, in place of her husband.
Jagan has announced the candidature of Duvvada Vani as the party candidate in Tekkali, though her husband is a hot contender for the seat.
Apparently, the YSRC leadership thought a woman candidate would have more advantage than a male candidate in Tekkali, which is considered a stronghold of the TDP.
Sources said Duvvada is likely to be fielded as the party candidate from Srikalulam Lok Sabha constituency. In fact, he lost the same Lok Sabha seat in 2019 in the hands of Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. Later, he was appointed as the YSRC coordinator in Tekkali.
Duvvada entered politics as a Congress leader and was appointed as Srikakulam district Youth Congress secretary in 2001. He became the vice-chairman of Srikakulam zilla parishad in 2006.
He resigned from the Congress in 2009 and joined Praja Rajyam Party, but lost to Atchen Naidu in 2009 elections from Tekkali constituency. He lost again in 2014, but later joined the YSRCP.
