Jagan should learn strategies from BRS!

After the humiliating defeat in the recent assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party leaders have been echoing the sentiments of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders regarding the reasons for their defeat.

Like BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, who refused to accept the rejection by the people in the Telangana assembly elections, Jagan also claimed that the people had not defeated his party but had voted for the TDP alliance because they were swayed by the false promises of the TDP.

While such self-consoling words will hardly convince the party cadre or the people, there is one thing Jagan has to learn from the BRS leadership if he wants the YSRCP to regain its lost glory in the next five years and win back the confidence of the people.

Like the YSRCP, the BRS has undoubtedly become crestfallen after facing the debacle in the November 30 assembly elections. The BRS also failed in the Lok Sabha elections, further demoralizing the party leaders and cadre.

Already, eight BRS MLAs and six MLCs have defected to the Congress, and many more are making a beeline to join the ruling party sooner or later.

There have been large-scale defections of party leaders, including zilla parishad and mandal parishad leaders, as well as leaders at the municipalities and corporations, into the Congress party.

Yet, the party's top leadership has not lost heart.

According to sources, the party leadership is strengthening its social media network and focusing on exposing the failures of the Revanth Reddy government systematically.

The BRS think tank is focusing on people’s issues, such as the lack of implementation of pre-election promises like the disbursal of the enhanced Rythu Bandhu scheme, the construction of double bedroom houses, the payment of Rs 2,500 to women, and Dalit Bandhu, and exposing these issues through social media.

The party is also highlighting the growing unrest among the unemployed youth over delays in filling up job vacancies, the failure of the law and order machinery in controlling murders and attacks, and increasing corruption at the grassroots level.

The BRS leaders are not making personal attacks on the Congress leaders or using abusive language against them. Instead, they are effectively using social media platforms to highlight public concerns and releasing them along with pictures and videos.

Sources said they want to sustain the campaign for the next four years so that it would generate a lot of debate among the people.

“The objective of the BRS leadership is to make the people feel that the KCR regime was much better than the Congress rule. This will help the BRS come to power again,” sources said.

It would be better if Jagan adopted a similar strategy against the TDP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

Instead of depending on ineffective leaders like Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Y V Subba Reddy, or Ambati Rambabu, the party should strengthen social media and focus only on public issues.

The YSRCP leaders should stop making personal attacks and posting vulgar messages on social media and instead concentrate on highlighting the failures of the Naidu government in the coming days.
