If YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has his way, senior party leader and state minister for education Botsa Satyanarayana will have to go to parliament in the next general elections.
Botsa, who represents Cheepurupalli assembly constituency in Vizianagaram district, wants to contest the next assembly elections again from the same constituency and become a minister once again.
However, the YSRC leadership has other plans. Following a series of survey reports, Jagan is learnt to have decided to drop most of the seniors from the contest in the assembly elections and field them in the Lok Sabha elections.
In their place, Jagan is planning to field youngsters who have better chances of winning the assembly elections. So, he wants to send Botsa to Lok Sabha from Vizianagaram and in his place, he is contemplating fielding present Vizianagaram MP Bellala Chandrasekhar from Cheepurupalli.
Chandrasekhar happens to be a close relative of Botsa and he, too, belongs to Cheepurupalli. So, it may not be difficult for Chandrasekhar to win the assembly seat.
Similarly, Jagan is planning to field Botsa’s nephew Chinna Sreenu to the state assembly from another assembly constituency. Even the responsibility of ensuring victory of the party in the district has been entrusted to Chinna Sreenu.
In the next elections, if the YSRC wins the next assembly elections again, Chinna Sreenu might become a minister in place of Botsa.
However, Botsa is said to be reluctant to contest the Lok Sabha elections and shift to Delhi. He doesn’t want to lose grip over the district and still hopes to control politics in the north coastal Andhra. If he is firm on contesting the assembly elections, Jagan may come out with plan B.
But if the YSRC leadership is also adamant on getting rid of the seniors in the assembly, there is nothing that Botsa can do. He may have to contest the Lok Sabha elections, as he had done in the past from Bobbili, say sources.
