
The YSR Congress party headed by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy scored a point over ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh headed by N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday.
Under pressure from YSRC leaders, the AP police booked a case against the Acharya Nagarjuna University principal Babu Rao, who was allegedly responsible for the sensation suicide of Rishiteswari, who was pursuing B Arch on the campus.
Registrar of the university Rajasekhar filed a case on Thursday with the Peda Kakani police in Guntur district against Babu Rao, under the provisions of the Anti-Ragging Act.
After a prolonged discussions between the Registrar and Vice Chancellor Sambasiva Rao earlier in the day, a decision has finally been taken to file the case against the principal.
In the complaint, the registrar said that the principal could not prevent ragging on the campus despite stringent legislation avaialble to initiate action against those indulging in ragging. He wanted the police to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and bring the facts to light.
The decision was taken following the visit of the campus by a fact-finding team of YSRC headed by MLAs R K Roja and Gottipati Ravikumar (Bujji), which met the senior offers of the university to find out the reasons for Rishiteswari resorting to the extreme step.
Roja virtually pulled up the vice-chancellor for being too soft on the principal. Finally, the VC agreed to book a case against Babu Rao.
