Surprising all the political pundits, Telangana Rashtra Samithi is heading for a massive victory in the assembly elections in the state, held on Friday last.
If one were to go by the trends, the TRS is likely to win three fourths of the seats in 119-member state assembly.
The grand alliance or Maha Kootami has turned out to be a big disappointment and is unlikely to get even 20 seats put together.
Though the TRS leadership has been confident of winning the elections, even it might not have expected that the mandate would be so huge.
Even when there was a massive Telangana sentiment in 2014, it could get just 63 seats. It is a different matter that it has increased its tally to 90 by engineering defections from other parties.
The Maha Kootami could not put up even a minimum fight, though the alliance partners -- the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party, the CPI and fledgling Telangana Jana Sena, gave an impression that they were coming to power.
And the only man who is responsible for such a massive mandate to the TRS and a big disaster for the TDP is none other than TRS president and caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. More than anything else, it was the brand KCR that made all the difference in the elections,
He successfully exploited the Telangana pride and self-respect, which he said was deeply hurt with the entry of Telugu Desam Party which joined hands with the Congress.
He warned the people against entertaining the TDP which was responsible for the destruction of Telangana along with the Congress.
He made people believe that TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was stalling Telangana projects.
The welfare schemes launched by KCR seem to have gone deeply into the people and they blindly voted for the TRS.
Schemes and programmes like Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, round-the-clock free power supply to agriculture, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima (life insurance to farmers), double bedroom housing, etc fetched him a lot of mileage.
And the TRS emerged invincible!
