Is Venkaiah Eyeing For LS Seat?

Is Venkaiah Eyeing For LS Seat?

Seen as a backroom strategist for several years, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu is said to be planning to jump into electoral fray and try his luck in the 2014 general elections.

The saffron party is scouting for a Lok Sabha constituency in coastal Andhra suitable for him.

It could probably be Ongole, some political observers say.

Venkaiah Naidu has been away from Andhra Pradesh politics for several decades now.

Branded as a close confidant of the party veteran L K Advani, Venkaiah has now been sidelined by the new dispensation.

The leaders like Venkaiah, Sushma Swaraj and Anantha Kumar who are perceived to be close to Advani have been kept out of the loop.

As a result, Venkaiah is now believed to have set his eyes on Lok Sabha polls and his supporters are engaged in searching for a suitable constituency for him.

Of late, Venkaiah has been playing an active role in bringing the BJP and TDP closer and reviving the alliance ahead of elections.

His equation with the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and heads of some leading media groups is very well known in political circles.

He has been acting as a conduit between the TDP and BJP's central leadership though the state unit of BJP is not keen on any tie-up with the TDP.

If the TDP and BJP forge an alliance, which many observers say is imminent by January next year, Venkaiah may, in all probability, take an electoral plunge and contest the Parliament elections from one of the seats in coastal Andhra region.

There is an expectation in the political circles that the BJP-TDP tie-up may be formalized after the announcement of results of the Assembly elections in five states.
