Is The Centre Sleeping?

Nirav Modi who is accused of cheating the Punjab National Bank to the tune of more than Rs 13,000 crore has sought asylum in the United Kingdom citing ‘political persecution’ in India.

This once again lays the focus on why the Central governments are not doing anything even as the UK is becoming a safe haven for an increasing number of criminals from India.

In 1997, Nadeem of the music composer duo Nadeem-Shravan, the prime accused in the murder of T-series music label Gulshan Kumar fled to the UK.

The UK refused to extradite him, as prima facie, there was no case against him. That Nadeem was exonerated later for lack of proof, acquired British citizenship and moved to Dubai where he is a successful businessman, is entirely another story.

Similarly, Lalit Modi, the creator of IPL and Vijay Mallya, are all based in the UK today and continuing to lead lavish lives. Nirav Modi joins that list now.

Which brings us to the question: What are the central governments either Congress or BJP doing in terms of bringing these fugitives to justice?

Or is it that these governments are also hand-in-glove with those criminals abetting their escape while preaching morals back home?
