Karimnagar MP and former president of Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party Bandi Sanjay Kumar was on Saturday appointed as BJP national general secretary, four months ahead of the assembly elections in the state.
The appointment was made as part of the reshuffle of the party and the allocation of crucial roles to senior leaders.
In addition, D K Aruna has been retained as the National Vice President of the BJP, as per the notification issued by BJP National President JP Nadda.
Though on record, the followers of Sanjay are expressing jubilation over the post given to him at the national level, they are also disappointed with the development, as it clearly shows that he might not be inducted into the Narendra Modi cabinet.
In fact, soon after the unceremonious removal of Bandi Sanjay from the post of Telangana BJP president, there was a talk that he might be taken into the Union cabinet in the capacity of Union minister of state.
But now, these hopes are shattered.
“We do not know whether appointment as national general secretary is a promotion or demotion. He is one among the many national general secretaries. What powers would he have with respect to Telangana?” a loyalist of Sanjay asked.
His removal as the BJP president and the subsequent appointment of Kishan Reddy in his place caused some concern among the party cadre.
So, his elevation to the national committee has not brought much cheers to his followers, though they say the BJP national leadership has acknowledged his services.
