Recently, there were reports in media stating that the Daggubati couple, Venkateswara Rao and Purandareswari, was being wooed by some NTR family members to join the TDP.
In Prakasam district’s Parchuru, flexis were put up calling upon veteran leader and ex-minister Daggubati Venkateswara Rao to join the TDP. However, some TDP party workers pulled them down immediately.
It is a well-known fact that TDP head Chandra Babu Naidu and the Daggubati couple do not see eye to eye. Despite being family, they are not on talking terms and don’t visit each other.
There was a time during TDP’s regime, when Venkateswara Rao tried to join the party. But at that point, Chandra Babu Naidu did not allow them into the party.
In retaliation, Daggubati brought his wife Purandareswari into politics and made her contest for the Lok Sabha seat. They created a sensation by winning the seat on the Congress ticket. Later, Purandareswari was also given a berth in the union cabinet.
Presently, the Congress party’s image has hit an all-time low in the Coastal districts. On the other hand, Chandra Babu Naidu is moving heaven and earth to come back to power.
Yet there are doubts about Chandra Babu allowing the couple into TDP. Similarly, it is unlikely that the Daggubati couple would like to join TDP at this juncture.
While the fact remains that nothing is permanent in politics, for now, looks like the couple joining TDP is merely a rumour.
