YSR Congress MLA G Srikanth Reddy on Monday demanded that new capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh be located between the Rayalaseema and Andhra Pradesh. Otherwise, he warned, there would be another agitation for second capital in the Rayalaseema region.
Speaking to mediapersons, Srikanth Reddy said another separatist agitation would rock the residuary Andhra Pradesh if these two issues were not taken into consideration.
The YSRCP leader also pointed out that Sivaraman Committee constituted to identify a place for setting of capital for Andhra Pradesh, did not visit Rayalaseema region so far.
Srikanth Reddy told AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that “We will be rendering great injustice to the posterity if we fail to take a decision on the location of new capital in conformity with the sentiments of the people of all parts of the new State”.
He said instead of constructing new capital in a smaller place and prone to cyclones, the new capital city can be constructed in the Donakonda area where lakhs of acres of land was available.
Meanwhile, the Sivaraman Committee members called on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday and discussed about the place where new capital city could be located. However, there are chances that the new capital of residual Andhra Pradesh is likely to be located between Vijayawada and Guntur.
