Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram is contemplating imposition of ban on the MLAs bringing mobile phones into the House, in the wake of some TDP members transmitting the proceedings of the assembly live through their mobiles.
On Friday, the YSRCP members brought to the notice of the Speaker about recording of the proceedings by the TDP members. Narasapuram MLA and YSRCP chief whip M Prasada Raju flagged that a couple of opposition party legislators were recording videos in the House.
Similar complaints were lodged by the YSRCP members against the TDP members on Thursday, too. During the zero hour, state education minister Botsa Satyanarayana brought to the notice of Sitaram that the TDP members were recording the assembly proceedings.
He sought to know whether the members could bring mobile phones into the House and if they could, what action could be taken if they start recording the proceedings of the House live.
The Speaker said he would have to give a ruling in this regard. He said he was contemplating preventing the members to enter the House with mobiles.
“We are planning to make it mandatory for the members to deposit their mobile phones at the entrance,” he said.
He further said if any member brings mobile phones and tape recorders into the House or even galleries, they would have to be seized.
“We have suspended a member for recording the proceedings on his mobile and the issue was referred to the Ethics Committee,” he said.
