Ever since social media has become active and started dominating the mainstream media, all sorts of speculations are being floated – some creating curiosity and others confusion among the people.
They are not able to decide whether they should believe these speculations and rumours which are going viral within minutes. Sometimes, they are turning out to be correct and most of the times, they turn out to be fake.
One such speculation that has come into circulation since Friday was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to contest from Telangana in the next Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held in 2024.
According to the reports, the BJP national leadership has decided that Modi should contest from South India this time to give a fillip to the party’s prospects, as the BJP is still struggling to conquer South in a big way.
Since the BJP has bright chances of coming to power in the Telangana state assembly elections in the later half of this year, the party prefers the Prime Minister to contest from Telangana.
The reports said the party is conducting a secret survey to identity two parliamentary constituencies which would not only be safe seats for Modi, but also boost the prospects of the party in the south.
It is believed that the BJP is looking for Malkajgiri, the largest parliamentary constituency in the entire India having cosmopolitan electorate; the second one is Mahabubnagar, which is backward and is also a favourable constituency due to caste and communal polarisation.
“If the Prime Minister gives a green signal for his contest from Telangana, the BJP will swing into action to prepare the ground for his victory,” sources said.
Hitherto, there had been a talk that Modi might contest from Tamil Nadu, but after watching the DMK growing stronger there, the BJP doesn’t want to take any risk.
“In Telangana, the situation is conducive to the BJP and hence, Modi might give preference to this state,” sources said.
