Has YSRC Strategy Backfired?

YSR Congress party appears to have faltered in its strategy over the state bifurcation bill.

Instead of getting any political mileage, the party has now exposed its confusion, as was evident from contradictory statements issued by its party leaders.

Hitherto, the YSR Congress party MLAs have been stalling the assembly proceedings demanding that they would not allow the debate on Telangana bill to take place, unless the assembly passes a resolution in support of Samaikyandhra.

However, on Wednesday, party MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy came out with a different demand that the State Reorganisation Bill should be put to voting.

Bhumana said that the Speaker, under Rule 359, 360 and 361, had powers to conduct voting for every clause of the Telangana Bill.

Requesting Speaker Nadendla Manohar to exercise his powers, he said that the YSRCP would not allow debate unless voting is made mandatory for the Telangana Bill.

On the other hand, another MLA G Srikanth Reddy found fault with the Speaker commencing the debate on Telangana bill.

He alleged that the beginning of debate showed that the Telugu Desam Party was having a secret understanding with the Congress party.

He condemned the government for ignoring the appeal of YSRCP MLAs to pass a resolution to keep the Andhra Pradesh united.
