Guv cracks whip on Day-2!

Within 24 hours of taking over the State administration, Governor E S L Narasimhan proved himself to be a tough task master.

On Monday, the Governor made the officials virtually run in getting the flash strike by petrol bunk owners call off their strike.

The indefinite strike was called since Sunday protesting against raids by legal metrology officials, causing hardships to the citizens with cars and two-wheelers going dry for want of fuel.

As reports of the innumerable hardships being faced by the citizens came to his notice, the Governor is learnt to have become furious and directed the Chief Secretary and the Civil Supplies Depart officials to take immediate and firm steps to ensure the people are not put to further inconvenience. He threatened to invoke Essential Commodities Maintenance Act against petrol bunks, if they did not call off strike.

The Governor’s intervention seemed to have a desired and telling effect on the petrol stations as the association had immediately announced withdrawal of their strike forthwith.
