There is an interesting story that due to bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh is facing a dearth of liquor.
According to latest figures, nearly 25 lakh cases of liquor are being manufactured in Telangana, while the consumption is limited to about 17 lakh cases.
On the other hand, in Andhra, around 15 to 16 lakh cases are manufactured, while the average consumption is about 20 to 22 lakh cases.
So, Andhra has a deficit of nearly 7 lakh cases. In the past, in united Andhra Pradesh, the excess liquor from Telangana distilleries was being sent to Andhra. After bifurcation, this has been stopped. Hence, the distilleries in Andhra are now working overtime to meet the local demand.
It seems, they are also working on Sundays after acquiring the requisite permissions.
Meanwhile, the parties in power have been announcing that they will phase out the production and remove the belt shops in a phased manner. But for now, the distilleries are minting money.
