The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for GHMC elections ended at 3 pm on Thursday. Hundreds of rebels from all major parties including ruling TRS remained in the fray as they refused to withdraw their nominations despite repeated requests from top leaders of all parties.
As many as 1,939 candidates from all parties remained in the fray for 150 GHMC seats, which shows all the parties are facing a sever problem with rebels.
The headquarters of all party offices witnessed tension on the last day with party leaderships changing their candidates in the last minute.
While they announced the name of someone in their official lists few days before, they gave B-form to others on the last day. With this, those who were denied B-forms protested in party offices and engaged in heated arguments.
Even the tie-up between TDP and BJP was also broken in some seats with both TDP and BJP issuing B-forms to both their candidates for the same seats.
While TDP issued B-forms to five seats which were allotted to BJP, the BJP in turn allotted B-forms to seats, which were allotted to TDP.
The TRS and Congress also changed their candidates in the last minute.
Despite ministers, MLA, MLCs and MPs from TRS made efforts to convince rebels to withdraw nominations, it provide futile.
Hundreds of TRS rebels remained in the fray giving anxious moments to TRS leaders who fear that they may damage the prospects of TRS in GHMC polls.
