The Congress leadership is giving finishing touches to an ambitious package for Seemandhra following bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana state.
The package will be a combination of a substantial financial assistance and a string of policy announcement concerning key development areas, the senior Telangana Congress leader and former PCC Chief D Srinivas said.
While participating in the Meet the Press organised by the Andhra Pradesh Journalists' Forum in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Srinivas claimed that the package would so attractive that the people of Seemandhra would be fully satisfied with it.
"You will be surprised how the Congress will be able to earn the goodwill and affection of the people of Seemandhra. The division of the state borders does not mean dividing the people. The Telugu people will remain united and live as brothers," Srinivas, who is now a member of the Legislative Council, said.
He said it was a wrong perception that the Congress had decided to split the state for the sake of seats.
"If that is the case, why would we want to lose 25 Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra region? It is wrong to say that the bifurcation decision was aimed at garnering electoral mileage. You should not reduce the Telangana aspirations to just a few seats to be won in elections," he said.
Only a few Seemandhra political leaders are unhappy with the bifurcation but the people, by and large, would not have anything to complain once the package is unveiled, Srinivas said.
