In January this year, former Telugu Desam Party MP from Guntur and managing director of Amara Raja group Galla Jayadev announced quitting politics, albeit for the time being.
Jayadev, who had won Guntur Lok Sabha seat twice – in 2014 and 2019, said the reason for his decision to quit politics was the prevailing political situation which made an honest businessman, if he was also into politics, must remain silent.
“I cannot speak against the Centre because of political limitations, and I cannot speak against the state because of business limitations. I had to sit silently in the no man’s land watching the warring sides shout at each other. I cannot sit silently for another five years,” he said then.
Apparently, Jayadev was not sure of the return of the TDP to power and was apprehensive that YSR Congress party led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy might come back to power, making his life as a businessman miserable.
But now that the TDP has come back to power and N Chandrababu Naidu has become the chief minister, Jayadev seems to have decided to return to active politics.
Since he has voluntarily opted out of the contest from Guntur, he is said to be expecting a good position in the party and the government.
Sources said Jayadev is lobbying for the post of Special Representative of Andhra Pradesh in New Delhi, a cabinet rank position that had a lot of chance to move shoulder to shoulder with the top leaders in New Delhi.
However, there is already an intense competition for the post of AP special representative in New Delhi.
Former MP and present TDP legislator from Undi constituency Kanumuru Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju also wants the post, because it will serve his business interests.
So is former Union minister Sujana Chowdary, but he is from the BJP and Naidu might not entertain him.
Former MP Kambhampati Rammohan Rao is also a serious contender for the post because of his loyalty to the party and the leader.
