Revolutionary singer and former ideologue of Maoist party Gummadi Vithal alias Gaddar on Friday met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, amidst speculation that he might join the Congress party.
He, along with his wife and son Suryam, went to Delhi along with former Congress MP Madhu Yashki on Thursday night and met Rahul Gandhi at his residence in the afternoon.
It is not exactly known what Gaddar had asked for and what Rahul had promised him.
However, after meeting Rahul, Gaddar told media that he was not going to join any political party, let alone the Congress party.
He said he would be a sort of link between all the like-minded secular political parties and work for the defeat of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre.
Stating that there was no democracy in Telangana under the TRS regime, Gaddar said Rahul Gandhi had assured of restoration of democratic space in the state if the Congress came to power.
“What is prevailing in Telangana is feudal raj. Not a single promise made by K Chandrasekhar Rao before 2014 has been implemented totally,” he said.
The Congress president also told him that he would get the investigation done into the attempt of Gaddar’s life in 1997.
“The BJP has been selectively targeting all the leaders who had opposed Modi,” he said.
Apparently, Gaddar sought the party ticket for his son Surya Kiran in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Surya is likely to contest from Peddapalli assembly constituency.
Though Gaddar was interested in contesting from Gajwel constituency against KCR, the Congress leadership thought it was not advisable, as if he lost in the hands of the TRS chief, it would damage his reputation.
“Instead, it would be better if Gaddar is confined to campaigning against the TRS in the elections, so that after the Congress comes to power, he could be given a respectable position on behalf of grand alliance,” a Congress leader said.
