Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababui Naidu has just returned from his US trip, but a fresh headache awaits him back home.
It is the selection of candidates for MLC seats under Governor quota. The term of legislative council chairman A Chakrapani and Reddappa Reddy, both from the Congress, who were selected in Governor quota in the Congress regime will end on May 27. Before that Naidu has to recommend two names for the vacancies.
Now, Naidu has the task before him to select the two candidates. Party sources said one of the candidates could be former minister K Ramasubba Reddy, who has turned a rebel after his bitter political rival C Adinarayana Reddy was inducted into the Cabinet. Naidu himself reportedly promised to nominate him as the MLC under Governor’s quota.
If Ramasubba Reddy gets the chance, the competition will now be for the remaining one seat. One of the contenders is former MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy. But the chances are less because he is also a Reddy.
In such a case, Naidu might consider the names of ex MLC-Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, besides Varla Ramaiah and J R Pushparaj.
There are some women TDP leaders who are also in the race. They include former speaker Kavali Pratibha Bharati, Mullapudi Renuka and actress-turned- TDP leader Kavitha.
So, it will be a Herculean task for Naidu to select the candidates!
