It is now official. Four union ministers – M M Pallam Raju, K Chiranjeevi, Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy and Daggubati Purandeshwari – on Monday formally resigned from their posts in protest against the Centre’s decision to divide Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana state.
The four union ministers along with others – Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, J D Seelam and Killi Kruparani – met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in the evening and held discussions for half an hour.
Explaining the developments in Seemandhra after the Cabinet decision to divide the state, the ministers told the Prime Minister that there was no alternative but to rescind the decision.
However, the Prime Minister expressed his helplessness as the Centre had come too far ahead on Telangana.
Dejected by his comments, four of the Union ministers asked him to accept their resignations forthwith. They told him that they would not be attending to their duties from Tuesday.
