Forget Bathukamma, Repair Roads

It's Bathukamma time in Telangana again. And the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government is getting ready to spend crores of rupees on this folk festival on the occasion of Dasara Navarathri celebrations in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.

Nobody would find fault with the K Chandrasekhar Rao government for officially celebrating the Telangana festival which was allegedly neglected during the Samaikyandhra regime. But is it the priority of the chief minister, at a time when the entire Hyderabad city has virtually gone to dogs?

There is not a single road which is not ravaged beyond repair. Every main road, lane and bylane has turned from bad to worse with potholes, ditches and craters and it has been a nightmarish experience for the people go travel on these roads. Traffic does not move for hours, if it rains even for 10 minutes.

So, what should be the government’s priority? Celebrating Bathukamma by spending crores of rupees or repairing the city roads on war footing? Bathukamma literally means “live happily.” How can the people live happily with such horrible civic conditions in the city?
