Flood Of Amendments To T-Bill

The office of the Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar has been flooded with thousands of amendments to the draft Telangana bill.

The Seemandhra members of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have submitted as many as 4,928 amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2013. Each member has given at least 100 amendments to the bill.

On wonders why they have not argued against the division of the state before their own party boss N Chandrababu Naidu who had decided in favour of separate Telangana state.

Did they not think about the perils of the division of the state when their party chief decided in favour of Telangana as far back as 2008.

The TDP politburo had unanimously decided in favour of Telangana statehood in 2008 and then sent a letter to the then Pranab Mukherjee Committee in October 2008.

Again, in 2009, the party included the Telangana statehood promise in the election manifesto. In 20013 again, it gave another consent letter to the Centre in favour of bifurcation of the state.

During all these years, the Seemandhra TDP legislators have been silent on the dangers of the state's bifurcation.

At a time when the constitutional process has already started and the Assembly has taken up the debate on the draft Telangana bill, they are making serious allegations that the division was meant to drive a wedge between the Telugu people.

The policy of Naidu appears to be to encourage both the Telangana and Seemandhra leaders of his party to fight for their respective causes.
