The short-notice discussion that took place in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday on the implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act has once again proved that it is absolutely a futile exercise by the Telugu Desam Party and other political parties to fight for the special category status to AP.
The BJP has already repeatedly made it clear that there is no question of granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
The Centre even submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court to that effect. And on Tuesday, Union home minister Rajnath Singh reiterated the same, stating that the Centre had already given more to AP in the form of special package than what it would have got through special category status.
So, there would be no result whatsoever if the TDP stalls the Parliamentary proceedings or the YSR Congress party and Jana Sena take to streets for special category status.
It is all waste of time and energy and even money hereafter. They have to talk about it only to sustain the issue and fight for political one-upmanship.
The parties have to indulge in mudslinging at each other to see how much mileage they would get in the next elections.
The people have realised that it is not possible to get the special status despite fights and they have no option but to wait till Narendra Modi loses power in the next elections. But it all depends on the national political scenario, as Modi does not depend on the AP voters.
If the BJP comes to power at the Centre again, it does not matter whether it will be YSR Congress party or the Telugu Desam Party or the Jana Sena Party that will come to power in Andhra Pradesh, as the Centre will not give special category status at all.
There is no guarantee that the Congress also will not backtrack on its promise to give the status to AP, if it is voted to power, as it has to go by the coalition dharma.
So, it is better parties bury the special category status at least for now and focus on other issues that would help Andhra Pradesh grow as a developed state.
