Farmers Seek Legal Counsel

The battle between Chandrababu Naidu and the farmers is all set to spill over to the 'courts' anytime soon.

Farmers from 10 out of the 29 villages earmarked for the ‘land pooling scheme’ are not at all impressed with the revised compensation package announced by Naidu.

In fact, they have termed as illegal, Naidu’s statement that land pooling activities would commence from Tuesday.

“We are waiting for an official notification by the government so that we can approach the judiciary,” said the farmers.

Retired ‘High Court Judge’, Lakshman Reddy has been approached by the farmers to enlighten them on their rights. The farmers allege that the government is blackmailing them.

“The government is threatening us saying that if we do not voluntarily give up our lands, then it will acquire the lands forcibly under the ‘Land Acquisition Act’ and we would then get much less than the market value. Many scared farmers have already sold their lands and left the villages. This is our livelihood. We know nothing except farming. By giving up our lands, what shall we do and where shall we go,” moan the farmers.
