Fact Sheet: YSRCP-TDP Media War

Looks like the war between political parties will be carried out through media in the coming days.

The parties are vying to plant stories about rival political parties in the media at the slightest possible provocation.

The media houses that would like to see the TDP in power are coming out with various negative stories about YSRCP.

Similarly, the media channels that are trying to support YSRCP are presenting stories showing TDP in a negative light.

There are two aspects here. On one side, they are feeding stories that are positive about a certain political party, on the other, they are coming up with stories that are against certain parties.

Let’s take a recent example.

One media house that was reporting against YSRCP, came up with a story which said that the party somersaulted by changing its stand in the Assembly. Another media reported that YSRCP was now in the process of retaining its position and was focusing on survival strategies.

In reality, YSRCP did not make any new changes to its earlier stance. Similarly, their argument may not be completely correct.

Meanwhile, the TDP has been demanding that they will not sit in discussions regarding the T Bill without the consent of their Seemandhra leaders and have been creating a ruckus saying that the Bill has to be sent back as it does not provide sufficient information.

Finally, they said that they will be a part of the discussions if the information they asked for was provided. When minister Anam assured them that all information would be shared, the party members returned to their seats. However, the same media houses did not consider this as a change in stance.

Similarly, the media house that supports YSRCP has been criticizing the TDP and Chandra Babu Naidu at every given opportunity. It is also striving to present a picture that the TDP and the Congress are working in tandem.

When union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad came to Hyderabad, a media house carried a big story saying that the Congress and the TDP had agreed to have discussions under his aegis. Though one does not know if there is any link between Azad’s visit and the discussions, the media house nevertheless tried to play up the angle in a big way.

The anti-Jagan media house regularly gives out stories saying that the Congress and YSRCP are together, while the anti-Chandra Babu media house plays up stories about an alleged understanding between the Congress and the TDP.

There is another media house that tries to promote the cause of CM Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, it is pretty limited.

So, if one has to know what is happening, then one might have to read all newspapers and follow all TV channels.
