![Fact Sheet: Temple Of Learning?](https://www.greatandhra.com/newphotos9/ga_politics1611037702.jpeg)
A university is called a temple of learning and not without reason as it is supposed to impart and inculcate the best values in students. There is sanctity to the university and its ambience.
Andhra University is a prestigious institution not just across India but even internationally. But March 31, 2017 will go down as a day of shame for the university.
An auction was held on this day at the Convocation Hall of the University for allotment of liquor shops. Liquor shops auction? At a university? You got to be kidding…right? Sadly, the answer is no!
But how could the Registrar and Vice-Chancellor of the University allow such a thing to happen? Interestingly, they had refused permission recently for a seminar on special category status at the same venue.
One might argue that holding an auction is not the same as running a bar. The answer to this line of reasoning is best left to the discretion of the reader. This is the very place where hundreds of eminent personalities had received their degrees, people who did the nation proud.
Today, liquor auctions re being held there. How far have we degenerated as a society?
