Much to the dismay of the BJP, KCR has decided to go ahead with increasing reservation for BC-E Category (Muslim minorities).
The reservation will also be extended to Scheduled Tribes. He has convened a cabinet meeting today evening at Begumpet.
KCR had promised 12 percent reservation to Muslims. He has already briefed the Governor on the same.
Since reservations along religious lines are not possible, after passing the Bill in the Assembly KCR intends to request the Centre to allow the quota Bill inclusion in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution to avoid legal hassles.
In the past, Tamil Nadu had adopted a similar approach. Now there is no way the BJP would allow such a thing to happen and the Centre will definitely drag its feet on the issue.
But either way, it’s a win-win situation for KCR. If the Bill is not included in the 9th schedule, he can say that the BJP thwarted his noble designs. If it does get included then he can claim to be a benefactor of the Muslims for having kept his poll promise.
