On World Environment Day, Chandrababu Naidu declared that his government would plant 50 crore saplings in the State and have them geo-tagged.
A week later, he issued an order which would make felling of trees, very easy for clearing land. Earlier permission had to be applied for felling trees for setting up industries.
Permission is still needed now, with the difference that the applicants can themselves certify which trees fall in the ‘low risk category’ and which don’t. This gives virtually a carte blanche to industries to cut down trees barring a few species such as red sanders, rosewood etc.
And in Telangana, when TV9 and ABN were banned, he cried himself hoarse saying that it was an attack on democracy and freedom of expression. But he does the same back home, banning Sakshi in the name of law and order.
He wept tears of anger when his MLAs were lured into the TRS but does not hesitate to do the same in AP with respect to the YSRCP. If this doesn’t qualify him for being the master of contradictions, what else does?
