If the reports coming from the YSR Congress party are to be believed, former MLA and one of the strong leaders of the party in Vijayawada Vellampalli Srinivas is likely to be sacked from the party.
The party leadership is understood to have received several complaints from the cadre that Vellampalli was not taking active role in the party affairs and on the other hand, was sabotaging the party by hobnobbing with the Telugu Desam Party leaders.
At present, Vellamapalli is acting as YSRC’s Vijayawada urban unit president, but he has not taken up even a single programme on behalf of the party.
What is more, he has not been following party instructions in managing the leaders in Vijayawada municipal corporation, sources said.
It is learnt Jagan has asked party MP V Vijay Sai Reddy to visit Vijayawada to rein in Vellampalli and replace him with another suitable leader as party’s urban wing president. If Vellampalli does not fall in line, he will be sacked, say sources.
Vellampalli, who was the MLA from Vijayawada West constitution in Praja Rajyam Party ticket, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party later and unsuccessfully contested against YSRC candidate Jaleel Khan in 2014.
After Jaleel Khan joined the TDP, Vellampalli joined the YSRC in December 2016. Since then, he has been playing active role in the party.
