After making a hue and cry about giving ‘equal justice’ to both the states after bifurcation, the BJP government at the Centre is meting out the same treatment to both Telangana and AP that the Manmohan Singh government had given in the past.
At that time, BJP had cried foul and insisted that certain issues needed to be addressed during bifurcation. To this, the Manmohan government gave a symbolic go ahead, but nothing concrete was done.
Eventually, Congress had been voted out of power and BJP came into power. And now, the Centre has conveniently doled out injustice to both the states in terms of Railway budget.
Barring a statement by Railways Minister Sadananda Gowda who said that a committee would be appointed to look into the pending projects in both the states, no other special allocations have been made.
But one thing is clear. The Modi government has meted out equal injustice to both Telangana and AP states. Incidentally, the ruling party in AP, TDP is a friendly party to BJP. Still, this hasn’t resulted in any special preference being accorded to AP. While Chandra Babu is claiming that he will make sure that Modi government gives in to their demands, the Telangana leaders are maintaining stoic silence.
Already, demonstrations are being held to protest against the injustice meted out to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It remains to be seen if the Centre will give any projects to the two Telugu states during the normal budget session.
