ED official shifted for going slow on KCR family?

The abrupt transfer of Dinesh Paruchuri, who was heading the Enforcement Directorate’s Hyderabad Zonal Office on Wednesday night, kicked up a debate in the political circles.

Paruchuri, a Telugu officer of additional directors of enforcement (ADE) rank, was transferred to Kochi Zonal Office.

It was only four months ago (in August) that he was appointed in the Hyderabad office, replacing Abhishek Goyal who earlier headed the Hyderabad unit of ED.

In his place, the central government appointed Rohit Anand as the new head of the Hyderabad Zonal Office.

The appointment of Anand as chief of the Hyderabad office comes at a time the ED is probing several high-profile cases involving several politicians and other popular personalities in the twin cities.

From the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) to Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) violations, the ED is currently also probing the casino case and drugs scam busted in 2017.

It has issued notices to several persons, including casino organiser Chikkoti Praveen Kumar and BRS leaders including MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy in the casino case and questioned them.

The ED questioned BRS MLA and “Cash for MLAs” complainant Pilot Rohith Reddy on Monday and Tuesday in connection with money laundering charges, apart from issuing summons to a businessman Abhishek Avala to appear before it.

Apparently, the Centre wanted a strong officer to corner Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and chief minister’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha in Delhi liquor scam case.

Since Paruchuri is a Telugu official, the Centre might have suspected that he might show some soft corner towards her.
