If speculations doing rounds in the political circles are correct, former minister and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender is likely to take over as the president of Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party in place of Union minister G Kishan Reddy.
An indication to this effect has come from none other Kishan Reddy in an interaction with the media on Saturday.
Kishan Reddy remarked that an RSS background is not mandatory to become a BJP president. Being an active BJP member twice is sufficient and even a person who contested the elections twice under the BJP symbol is also enough to become the BJP chief.
When asked specifically, he admitted that Etela Rajender is also in the race for the BJP president's position, as he got elected twice on the BJP ticket, first as an MLA from Huzurabad and secondly as an MP from Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency. He clarified that the decision rests entirely with the central leadership.
Kishan Reddy's comments have heightened speculation about whether Etela Rajender might become the next BJP state president.
As suspense over the BJP leadership in Telangana continues, Kishan Reddy's statements have intensified curiosity about who will take the position.
On the possibility of Chiranjeevi joining the BJP, Kishan Reddy brushed it aside. He said Chiranjeevi attended the Sankranti celebrations at his residence in Delhi, as he had good relationship with the megastar.
He explained that Chiranjeevi came upon his invitation and that they consider each other family. He added that BJP has connections with many film industry figures, some of whom have joined the party and held ministerial positions.
