Gloves are off and knives are out now! A day after the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy virtually declared a war on the Congress high command, asking it to reverse the decision on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the AICC General Secretary in-charge of the state Digvijay Singh made it clear once again that there would be no question of a rethink on the decision.
"There is no way we can go back on Telangana state formation," Singh told reporters in Delhi in a clear snub to the Chief Minister whose outburst has stunned the party bosses in Delhi.
The AICC leader pointed out that the decision to carve out separate Telangana state was taken after prolonged consultations and on the basis of consent letters given by all major political parties including TDP.
"We cannot behave like regional parties and change our stand at the drop of hat. The TDP, BJP and YSR Congress Party have taken U-turns on the issue but we cannot do that as a responsible national party. Only after giving a thorough thought, we decided to divide the state," Singh said.
He refused to comment on the strong remarks made by the Chief Minister, targeting the high command.
Meanwhile, the Congress Rajya Sabha member and senior Telangana leader Palvai Govardhan Reddy met Digvijay Singh and complained against the Chief Minister for his open defiance. He handed over copies of the press clippings on Chief Minister's remarks to Singh.
