Mani Ratnam and Ram Gopal Varma were considered as the future of South in 90's. In fact, both these filmmakers have made some really good films and won accolades from the audience.
Mani Ratnam and RGV entered into Bollywood and proved their mettle across the nation. Now, both these directors are going through a lean patch. However, people say that there is huge difference between these talented directors.
Technically, Guru was the last hit for Mani Ratnam and Ravanan was critically acclaimed in Tamil.
His last film Kadal became a dud at the box-office. But, Mani has never lost his touch and all his films are technically sound with good music, stunning cinematography.
Even though Mani Ratnam made some bad films, audiences do respect this 'Roja' director for his creative thoughts and lot of people are eagerly waiting for his next film to start.
On the other hand, Ram Gopal Varma has completely lost it and he is out of the game. It would be a difficult question to answer if someone asks, "What is the last hit film of RGV that you remember".
Keeping hit and flops aside, Varma has started to make third grade movies and his upcoming movie 'Sridevi' is the best example for that. Media people were happy that 25 years of Shiva meeting was about to be held.
Just hours before this meeting, Varma released the stills of his upcoming film 'Sridevi' and reminded everyone that 'Shiva' director doesn't exist within him at the moment and he has completely changed into a third grade filmmaker.
