Demonetisation Hits YSRC MPs' Quit Plan?

Demonetisation Hits YSRC MPs' Quit Plan?

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s plan of forcing his party MPs to quit their posts and contest again in the by-elections on the plank of special category status is said to have been put on the backburner.

Reason is the sudden shock given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by scrapping 500 and 1000 rupee notes. The decision has broken the backbone of the country’s economy pushing the people into deep crisis.

According to economic experts, it would take at least five to six months to bring the economy back on tracks.

Under these circumstances, it is unlikely that the MPs of the YSR Congress party come forward to resign in the name of special category status. Contesting elections is no easy task as it involves spending of crores of rupees.

The MPs who are already in crisis due to withdrawal of 500 and 1000 rupee notes would not be willing to spend further money in the by-elections.

Moreover, the people will not accept money in 100s or 500s. They demand at least Rs 2000 per vote. This will jack up the election expenditure.

What is worse, the Income Tax authorities would keep an eye on spending of black money in the elections. Keeping in view all these, the YSRC MPs will drop their plan to force by-elections, say sources.
