Congress-TRS Tiff Turns A Headache for TDP

TDP is facing a new challenge in the Telangana region. At a time when everyone anticipated a merger or at least a poll alliance between the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi, TRS chief KCR decided to take on the Congress.

Given the new scenario, Congress and TRS will be fighting it out during the forthcoming elections. However, there are rumours that this could a new drama being played out by both the parties. But it could be a while before the truth emerges.

Meanwhile, it is TDP which stands to lose. Similarly, the new equation is not favourable to the BJP which is trying to find a foothold in the state politics.

In their case, as they are not confident of being voted to power, hence the damage will be minimal.

On the other hand, TDP will have to work hard to make sure its leaders stay with the party. Though the party has a good presence in Telangana, nearly 15 MLAs have joined TRS recently.

Given the new developments, TRS will also look at attracting TDP leaders where it does not have a strong base. Congress too is playing its part in the new alignment. They have already started holding meetings with some TDP leaders. In fact, a senior leader like Digvijay Singh is personally calling some TDP leaders to join the Congress.

Others who have no chance of joining both the parties and who are unsure of winning on the TDP ticket are drifting towards the BJP. So, saving the party in Telangana has become top priority for TDP top cadre.
