A desperate Congress seems to be latching on to every opportunity to boost its prospects in the coming elections. Now, it wants to tap into the huge popularity of the cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
Though the master blaster will not, in any way, campaign for Congress or lend his name for the ruling party, the UPA leaders are keen on cashing in on his brand image.
Since there is a massive hype generated around Sachin’s last test match, scheduled to be held at his home ground in Mumbai on Sunday, the Congress wants to utilize the occasion to make a big show of appreciation for the cricketing genius.
Though it was the UPA who nominated Sachin to Rajya Sabha, he is under no obligation to support the ruling party. However, an influential section of the Congress Congress leaders are of the view that the party and the UPA regime should make it a point to register their high-profile presence at the Mumbai stadium when Sachin bids farewell to the game.
There is speculation in political circles that someone from the Gandhi family and a heavyweight representative of the Union Cabinet may fly down all the way to Mumbai to cheer the maestro on his farewell match.
