An interesting and controversial discussion has been kick-started by the state leaders during a meeting with the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi who has taken the onus of leading the Congress poll campaign for 2014.
Ex MLC Madasu Gangadhar pointed out to him that the Reddys were alienating the Congress in the state and veering towards YSRCP.
He said Congress should let go of them and focus on BC, SC, ST groups and Kapu communities which can help the Congress come to power in the state.
To support his argument, he narrated the incident when the Brahmananda Reddy group suspended Indira Gandhi from the Congress in 1978.
At that time, Indira Gandhi fought single handedly by bringing common people into politics. The BCs, Scs and STs supported her during that time, he reminded.
On the other hand, MLC Poguleti Sudhakar Reddy pushing aside Gangadhar’s remarks said that it would not help the party’s interests if caste equations were brought into focus.
Well, would the High Command let go of Reddys based on Gangadhar’s remarks?
