The proposal mooted by Telangana Telugu Desam Party working president A Revanth Reddy for a possible alliance between the TDP and the Congress party to take on the mighty Telangana Rashtra Samithi seems to have no takers in the Congress party.
Revanth Reddy came out with the proposal stating that it was a historic necessity for the like-minded parties to come together and fight against the TRS in the next elections.
Interestingly, the proposal received unexpected support from veteran Congress leader and former Union minister S Jaipal Reddy.
He said there was nothing wrong in the alliance, as the TDP was not an untouchable party in so far as Telangana is concerned.
However, AICC in-charge of Telangana and Andhra affairs Digvijay Singh reportedly ruled out such an alliance.
“The TDP is a rival party for the Congress. In both the Telugu states, it has an alliance with the BJP. How can the Congress have any alliance with it in Telangana? It sends wrong message to the cadre. The Congress will fight it alone in Telangana and strive hard to come to power,” Diggy is learnt to have told the party leaders.
May be Revanth Reddy and Jaipal Reddy were of the view that if both the TDP and the Congress come together, it would strengthen the Reddy community which can regain its hold over Telangana politics.
But, there are no takers for such caste-based politics in both the parties!
