Now that senior leader V Vijay Sai Reddy has resigned from the YSR Congress party and relinquished politics, the post of regional coordinator of the party in north Andhra districts has fallen vacant.
In fact, there was a talk that YSRCP president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had decided to strip Sai Reddy of the regional coordinator post soon after his return from his London trip.
But even before Jagan made this change, Sai Reddy announced his decision to quit politics; and it is believed that Jagan’s proposed move might have spurred Sai Reddy to take the decision.
Now, the party cadres are speculating on who would Jagan appoint in place of Sai Reddy as the regional coordinator of erstwhile combined Uttarandhra districts of Viskhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
Till the other day, there was a talk in the party that senior party leader and leader of opposition in the State Legislative Council member Botsa Satyanarayana is likely to be appointed as the in-charge of the YSRCP in north-coastal Andhra.
Jagan, who has been making changes in the party’s organisational structure, has reportedly decided to entrust key responsibilities to Botsa to rebuild the party in the north-Andhra districts.
But according to latest reports, another senior leader from Tirupati district and former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy is seriously lobbying for the post of party regional coordinator in Uttarandhra, as he eyes an opportunity for his business interests in Visakhapatnam.
Now that he has become a close confidant of Jagan and has been calling shots in the party, Chevireddy is confident that the boss would definitely say no to his request. He is trying to convince the party president in this regard, sources said.
But if Jagan really entertains Chevireddy’s request and makes him the regional coordinator for Uttarandhra, it might not take much time for Botsa, too, to call it quits from the party, sources said.
